Internet Web Site Promotion: Changing of The Guard

Filed under: Improve Search Engine Ranking @ 4:36 pm

Internet web site promotion has undergone massive transformations these past few years. The best way to describe the current climate of site promotion is that all the old ways of the past have been modernized, while newer ways of doing things have taken shape and still are being explored from a marketing standpoint.

In terms of the old ways (old in relative internet age terms), you have PPC (Pay Per Click) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as two of the more well known techniques used by those seeking to garner more traffic and targeted leads to their site. Those two strategies still exist but have certainly matured greatly since the earlier days of the internet. PPC for example, still offers great opportunities to get targeted leads quickly and cheaply, but there are a lot more rules in place as well as techniques that one hast to master in order to make it work for them, or it could cost them a considerable sum.

SEO or search engine optimization has moved significantly away from on-page factors to off-page. If you are not familiar with the jargon, let’s just put it this way, it’s more about what other sites think of you rather than what you do for your own site, though of course what you do for your own site directly affects what others think of you. Quality means more attention and more votes for your site in the form of links. This increases the overall exposure of your site over time.

Those are some of the veteran strategies in internet marketing. Some new things that have sprung up and are continuing to show itself in new and as of yet unpublished ways have to do directly with Web 2.0. Basically the internet is becoming more and more of grand social dialogue between users and content publishers, and even that line is beginning to blur as users themselves are generating lots of unique content on their own via blogs, social networking sites, online communities, and other user generated content sites.
